“Up all night … can’t get no sleep … and the beat, is goin’ through my head …” We’ve all been there, home from the club and into bed … only to lay there for hours with that beat going round n’ round … Originally released on Amfibius Recordings back in 2006, DJs Sulli & 5657 have brought the stellar premise of “Up All Night,” featuring the globally respected vocalist Alexander East, back to life and are serving it up with a smorgasbord of five star remixes from some of the the underground’s finest.
Veteran Reno-based house head duo DJ Sulli & 5657 start things off with three new versions all based around the underground dance floor. Their Deeper Mix has already received some acclaim and features haunting strings layered over deeper drum elements and a quality vocal treatment. The Original Mix picks up the pace a bit with electrified synth riffs and screaming chords. If the big rig is your schtick, look no further than the Main Room Mix for rattling bass and a big rise.
This release shines the brightest with its deep renditions. In that department, the label has recruited the brightest stars of the true school movement. First up, Pezzner … one of the hottest producers right now and this mix shows why; tech-inflected rhythms reveal a deep house vibe broken up by filtered synth snips and intelligent vocal placements. Take one step deeper and you’ll come across the sublime remix by Q-Burns Abstract Message. Recognized as a true master of the genre, Q-BAM pulls no punches with his thoughtful take.
Understated breaks create a foundation for a genius rethink of the main version’s synth lines. Seattle’s quiet storm Jeromy Nail sets the mood with his classy rendition, As always clean production empowers Jeromy’s version with well-placed synths and a logical progression throughout. Closing out the set, rising LA star and positive force in the underground Nonfiction drops a tech-house monster that will bang the late night darkroom. A gritty repetitious synth rolls over techy drums and spacey underpinnings. A mild vocal treatment unleashes the spoil.
