Romare’s debut album, Projections, was released via Ninja Tune in April to critical acclaim from The Guardian, DJ Mag, Clash, Mixmag, and many others. The album is in many ways a homage to the cycle of cultural appropriation in America, expertly cataloging the movements of influence within music. The album doesn’t just sample music and vocal snatches, but also other sources such as documentaries and marries live instrumentation with the sampling palette. The album track “Rainbow” was produced in homage to the American ’70s disco scene, and it has been re-worked into the stunning Club version found here. Appropriately, it finds itself right in the middle of Romare’s mood mash-ups—a sweet spot indeed.
